THE Widnes Wild NIHL Laidler Division team suffered a disappointing 16-2 defeat at the hands of Blackburn Hawks at Planet Ice Widnes on Sunday.
Blackburn were the better team throughout this game and took the lead just 90 seconds into the first period.
They led 5-0 at the first period break and scored three more goals before Widnes finally managed to find the net themselves.
A well-taken strike in the top corner of the net from Bailey Thomson broke the Wild duck on 38 minutes and then a first goal for the club from Tomas Vyrostek just 90 seconds later sparked faint hopes of a Widnes fightback.
However, that was as good as things got for the Wild fans and the score stubbornly remained 8-2 at the second interval.
Eight unanswered goals for the Hawks piled on the misery in the third period and the Wild slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season.
Having lost all eight of their league games so far this season, the Wild will be hoping for a change of fortune when they face high-flying Hull Jets in their next game this Sunday at Planet Ice Widnes, 5.30pm face off.
