Three tries in the final quarter saw BANK QUAY BULLS ease clear of HARESFINCH to claim a 36-16 win.
Ste Bird and Danny Woods, together with two Chris Forster goals, saw Bulls establish an early 12 point lead, Danny Green’s try and a Louis Platt goal having the deficit.
Reece Barry and Glyn Roberts re-established the visitor’s supremacy, Foster with his third conversion but again Haresfinch put themselves back in contention through a Daniel Fletcher touchdown. Chris Mason’s try and Platt’s goal cut the deficit to six points in the 53rd minute but Sean Boyle, Woods with his second and Ste Caley went in for the visitors, Forster with his fourth goal.
SHEVINGTON SHARKS put up a spirited display against WIDNES ST MARIES VIKINGS, going down 32-22, Lee Birdseye with two late penalties to secure the win for the visitors.
Vikings led 12-0 thanks to tries from Liam Sheridan and stand off Mike Gill, Birdseye goaling both, Neil White responding for the Sharks.
A Birdseye penalty was the only other score of a tight first period. Scott Yates extended the visitor’s lead, Andrew Beaney responding with a self converted effort.
Two more Birdseye penalties followed in a physical encounter but tries by Phil Wallace and Beaney, who again added the extras to his own effort, made it 22-20 to the Vikings with eight minutes left.
Tom Tabb went over, Birdseye goaling, Beaney kicking a penalty to narrow the gap to a converted score again before Birdseye’s boot ensured the win.
A superb second half display saw CLOCK FACE overcome HAYDOCK, the visitors clawing back a 28-10 deficit to score 26 unanswered points.
Peter Beecher opened the scoring with a try for Clock Face but then it was all the hosts. Steve Jones, Rob Sexton and Jordan Gibson went over for tries, Karl Dinsdale with two goals.
Matt Garner replied, Martin Hutton goaling but Josh Jackson and Jordan Gibson and two more Dinsdale goals seemed to have put Haydock in total control. Sam Long pulled a try back just before the break and Clock Face were unstoppable in the opening seven minutes of the second half.
Adam McGowan and Adam McGraw crossed, Hutton goaling both and with 17 minutes to go, McGowan claimed his second. Hutton landed the seventh try and his fourth goal in the 72nd minute to secure the comeback win.
In the derby, SIMMS CROSS were too strong for HALTON FARNWORTH HORNETS, running out 30-6 victors.
Second rower Matty Reid crossed twice, Keiron Kavanagh, Callum Hayes and Ste McDermott also with tries for Simmies, Danny Price with a touchdown and three goals.
Hooker Lewis Hulme opened the scoring for Hornets, David Dourley with the extras but it was all the visitors from there on in.
ASHTON BEARS proved too strong for ROOSE PIONEERS, running out 64-10 winners. Matty Melling opened the scoring and led the way for the Bears with 20 points, also kicking eight goals.
Lewis Roberts, twice, Andrew Ball, Chris Rothwell and Danny Beckett all crossed in the first half, Liam Johns with an unconverted try in response for the Pioneers.
Rothwell claimed a second touchdown two minutes into the second half, Lee Jones, Andrew Maunder and Andy Bailey – bringing up the half century – keeping the Bears in control. Ross Walker stemmed the flow with a self converted try but Chris Bishop and Dan Smith added to the Bears tally to make it a dozen tries.
