RUGBY League has finally come to its senses and allowed Widnes Vikings back into Super League.

In its efforts to spread the game in London, Wales and France the league has neglected to look after what it already has and allowed a club steeped in so much history and prestige to be consigned to the wilderness.

Widnes is one of the great names of the sport and to not have a club of such stature in the top flight has been a travesty, not just for Vikings fans, but for all fans of the game.

Now, finally, the club has been granted a licence to play in Super League and the town can now, once again, be proud to have our club in the top flight.

Not only will this be good for supporters in Widnes but it will be good for the sport as a whole – games such as Widnes versus Warrington will do more to raise the profile of the sport than a match between Harlequins and Crusaders in front of a handful of people. Credit must also go to the club, coaching staff and players for forcing their way back into Super League.

They took the bitter pill of exile from Super League and used it as a chance to start again, rebuild and come back stronger.

Widnes are finally back in the big time and one of the proudest names in the sport is back in its rightful place.
