THE bodies of an elderly couple were found near their car near Aston on Friday.

Police were called to the remote location near Runcorn around 2.25pm, to reports of the body of a woman, aged 86.

She was found next to a car. Her 87-year-old husband was found dead close by.

As the World went to press the police had yet to release any further details.

A post mortem examination revealed that the man had died from natural causes. A second examination was due to be carried out on the woman.

It is believed the couple, from Winsford, had got lost and died as a result of the cold weather.

Insp Dave Snasdell of Winsford NPU, could not comment in detail on the case but said it was a ‘very tragic incident’.

Cheshire’s branch of Age UK released a warning to the elderly in response to the news.

Alex Major, a spokesman for the charity, said: “We urge all older people to keep warm and safe this winter and if travelling make sure that someone knows where you are going.”
