Bridge maintained top spot in the Runcorn Sunday League after a 4-1 win against Waterloo.
Despite having injuries galore Bridge fielded a decent side and in the 6th minute Liam Sweeney split the Waterloo defence and Andy Gott lobbed the advancing keeper only to see it brush past the post.
Ste Appleton, recalled to the Bridge team showed fantastic skill down the left in the 10th minute, dummying the ball and turning his marker, his dangerous cross found Karl Thomas who made space and his left foot curler whizzed past the post. Mike Chesters first time cross field pass caught Waterloo napping and When Liam sweeney took a touch, his shot was deflected wide for a corner.
Lewis Watson in the Bridge midfield, who despite having feeling unwell, controlled the centre of the pitch and after Andy Stringers quick throw he played Andy Gott in, Gotts shot flashed wide. Peter Murphy great play fed Ste Appleton and his pinpoint cross to Karl Thomas brought a great save from Carl Corrin in the Waterloo goal before Andy Stringer made 2 amazing saves to keep the scores level at half time.
Bridge came out with more enthusiasm after a stern half time team talk and 4 minutes in, Mike Chesters whipped in a corner and Karl Jenkins bravely headed home from close range for 1-0.
Karl Jenkins again got in an advanced position and tested the keeper with a fine shot, Corrin saving well but with Bridge having the upper hand, Andy Gott crossed in dangerously for Karl Thomas to shoot , Corrin again making a fine save but Ste Appleton fired home from 18 yards for 2-0.
Jamie Cumpper and Si Porter were refuting any Waterloo attacks and dealing with ease and Watson and Chesters were instrumental in much of Timbers good play and there efforts were nearly rewarded when Mike Chesters venomous shot in the 53 minute brought an outstanding save from Carl Corrin but Ste Appleton dinked the ball over him as he dived for 3-0 for a great finish.
Andy Gott had a 30 yard rasper whistle past the post before Lupton pulled 1 back for Waterloo but 70 minutes in, after good work from Lewis Watson, Karl Thomas headed the ball into Liam sweeney's feet, after deceiving the keeper he dribbled the ball goal wards and found the near post despite defenders being on the line.
Liam Sweeney's 30 yard pile driver would have been goal of the game but flew just wide of the post but Bridge played well enough to take the 3 points. Lewis Watson, Mike Chesters, Ste Appleton and Liam Sweeny were the pick of Bridge players with Sweeney taking the man of the match award.
