West Cheshire Shield holders Runcorn Town Reserves progressed into the Quarter Finals of this seasons' competition after a 2-0 victory at Ashville Reserves on Saturday.
In very blustery conditions, the reserves took control early on after being awarded a penalty after just four minutes after a defender was adjudged to have handled on the line, with Connor Anderson despatching his 8th goal of the season low to the keeper’s right.
The first half was mostly Town who kept possession comfortably and should have added to Anderson's goal with the wind at their backs. Ashville had a couple of attempts but never tested Wilson in goal with all shots off target.
Midway through the first half David Graven doubled the lead with a well worked goal from a corner. David Jolley headed the ball back across goal with Graven out jumping his marker and finding the left hand corner for his first goal for the club.
The second half saw the home side with the wind advantage which gave them the majority of possession, with prolonged pressure ensuring they pulled a goal back midway through the half from Charles McInness who’s cross-shot went in off the post despite Wilson's best efforts.
Beech was replaced by Bond late in the half and despite struggling with the dreadful conditions, held out to progress into the next round.
