AN AUDI driver ‘miraculously escaped’ with minor injuries after aquaplaning on the M62.
A photo released by Merseyside Police shows the extent of the damage to the car following the crash on the westbound carriageway between Rainhill and Huyton on Sunday, December 1.
The crash brought the motorway to a standstill, with the whole westbound carriageway closed and a diversion route in place via Widnes, the A5300, and M57.
At around 10.15am, National Highways Northwest confirmed the carriageway had reopened, though Google Traffic Alerts suggest disruption could last until 1pm.
Officers took the opportunity to criticise several ‘selfish’ drivers who left the motorway by driving the wrong way up a slip road to avoid the queue.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “The driver of this Audi miraculously escaped with minor injury after aquaplaning on the M62 this morning.
“And those selfish, impatient few who drove the wrong way up the motorway slip towards officers in the carriageway can expect their ticket to follow in the post.”
