HALTON Borough Council has joined a nationwide campaign against domestic abuse.
The borough has received accreditation from White Ribbon, a UK charity which works to prevent domestic abuse through education.
White Ribbon works with more than 500 UK workplaces, and it is currently promoting White Ribbon Day.
The scheme, which runs from November 25 to December 9, to promote domestic violence awareness.
Cllr Martha Lloyd-Jones, the council’s executive board member for community safety, said: “This is an important moment for the council, and a powerful step in the right direction.
“Unfortunately, we still do not live in a time where women and girls always feel safe, so being part of something that aims to change this is crucial.
“We are committed to this vision and hope that, through education, we can be changemakers in making sure women and girls are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve to be.”
As part of the scheme, the council has launched a social media campaign and invited staff to lunchtime education sessions.
Topics at the exercise will include what domestic abuse is, identifying coercive and controlling behaviour, domestic abuse technology, working with those who harm, and the Halton domestic abuse offer.
The council began its social media campaign with a ‘myth versus reality’ post which sought to shed light on the misinformation that surrounds domestic violence.
