A PERSON suffered ‘severe injuries’ during an emergency incident on the railway, police have confirmed.
Trains through Widnes, Hough Green and Warrington faced major disruption yesterday evening, Tuesday.
This was due to emergency services dealing with an incident on the railway, with passengers on the platform told that a person had been hit by a train.
The incident was on the line between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport, with services cancelled and delayed.
In a statement this morning, Wednesday, British Transport Police has confirmed that a person was injured in the incident, with an investigation ongoing.
A BTP spokesman said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 5.20pm yesterday, Tuesday, near Heaton Chapel railway station.
“Officers and paramedics attended, and a person found with severe injuries was taken to a place of safety to receive medical care.
“The incident is being investigated.”
Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services were impacted.
Last night, a spokesman for National Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.
