The impending closure of a landmark Runcorn social club has been described as 'a great loss' to the local community.
Runcorn Conservative Club - known to many as 'The Conny Club' - announced online recently that it will be calling last orders for the final time on Saturday, November 30.
The club on Balfour Street posted on Facebook, saying: "With deep regret we announce that the conny club will soon be closing its doors due to circumstances beyond our control. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers, past and present, for their support and loyalty over the years.
"Thank you for being a part of our journey."
The club said it would be 'business as usual' until then.
One regular who got in touch described it as a 'hub' for the local community.
He said: "The conny club has been a local community hub for years with something for everyone - snooker, darts, pool and bingo. Members of all ages met and many lasting friendships were made.
"With a great team, service was always with a smile and a chat. This is a great loss for the community and a sad day."
David Gray, chairman of the Halton branch of The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), added: "I am very sorry to hear that the conny club
is closing. I believe it has been very well supported in the local area
and it is sad to see places that the community use shut their doors."
The club declined to comment further.
