A BORDER collie has rediscovered his voice and is back to singing along to Shania Twain after specialist care at an animal hospital.

Five-year-old Jax had lost his voice due to a constant chronic cough, but his owner, Ellena Farrow, promised her pet, 'I'm Gonna Getcha Good'.

Ms Farrow took Jax to Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) in Sutton Weaver, Cheshire, where a 5cm grass seed was removed from his lungs.

"Best of all he's singing again."

She often caught Jax singing along to the radio when checking on him through a camera in the living room.

His singing had stopped during his illness, but after his treatment, Jax sang along to Shania Twain.

Ms Farrow said: "It showed Shania is 'Still The One' that makes Jax react.

"It was brilliant and he’s actually much more tuneful than I am."

She said: "At the beginning of August Jax suddenly started coughing a lot for no obvious reason.

"I thought it might just be a virus but when it didn’t improve after a couple of weeks I went to our local vet."

After treatment for potential lungworm didn't resolve Jax's symptoms, Ms Farrow was worried it could be something more serious.

Jax was referred to NWVS for a CT scan, which confirmed the presence of a grass seed.

She said: "I was shocked at the size of the grass seed.

"It was 5cm long and more like the full seed head of some long grass."

"This allowed us to locate the grass seed and safely secure it before carefully retrieving it.

"The seed was quite a size, measuring 5cm, so no wonder Jax was coughing so much as this would have been a major irritation for him."

The procedure went well, and Jax was allowed home the same day.

He has fully recovered from the cough.

She said: "The team at NWVS was brilliant and I’d definitely recommend them.

"Especially Chantal.

"She was very honest with me about my options.

"I felt like I could 100 per cent trust she would do everything she could for Jax and he was in the best hands.

"She rang me after the CT scan to update me and then as soon as the bronchoscopy was completed, the communication was faultless and I’m very grateful."
