POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an 87-year-old man died following a crash in Chester last week.
At around 4.38pm on Wednesday 6 November, officers in Chester responded to reports of a road traffic collision on Littleheath Road, Christleton.
Attending the scene, officers found that a collision had occurred between a blue Volkswagen T-Cross and a tree.
Police and paramedics treated the driver of the Volkswagen, an 87-year-old man from Frodsham at the scene, but sadly, despite their best efforts, he passed away a short time later.
His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and, as part of their investigation, officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to please contact officers.
Police are also particularly keen to identify a man who had been walking his dog and stopped at the scene to assist.
Sergeant Russell Sime, of the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit, said:
“Enquires in relation to this collision are ongoing and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.
“As part of our investigation we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and believes they may have witnessed the incident. The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage or CCTV footage which may aid the investigation.
"Our officers are also keen to identify a male dogwalker who arrived on the scene shortly after the collision took place and provided assistance to the casualty."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML1957243.
