RESIDENTS have been warned of a scam consisting of someone pretending to be from Cheshire Fire and Rescue and asking for money.

It comes following reports of someone knocking on doors in Widnes and asking people for money.

The force told residents about the scam over the weekend.

A Facebook post reads: “If you do get a visit like this, please be aware that it's NOT Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and you should not provide payment details.

“Our staff do regularly carry out visits to homes and businesses but will always be in uniform and carry ID badges, so please make sure you ask to see the ID badge.

“If you have concerns please contact us on 01606 868700.”
