A rescue centre is appealing for people to give a dog a forever home after a £1,000 donation.
As part of its 'Rescue a Rescue' campaign, Agria has partnered with 11 animal charities and rescue centres across the UK to raise awareness of animals in need of forever homes.
Cheshire Sighthound Rescue, based in Runcorn, was the lucky recipient of a £1,000 donation from Agria.
The donation aims to support the rehoming of 'rescue mascot' Dixie, a bull lurcher who has faced her fair share of hardships.
Eight-year-old Dixie was taken in by Cheshire Sighthound Rescue twice, both times due to circumstances beyond her control.
In 2022, her owner moved abroad and couldn't take her along.
Seven months later, she was adopted but had to be returned due to the owner's increased working hours.
The rescue centre describes Dixie as an active, fun-loving, and loyal companion who is in need of a permanent home.
She enjoys playing tug-of-war, sniffing around, and having plenty of blankets to herself.
Due to her breed combination, Dixie would be best suited to an experienced pet owner.
Her headstrong nature, dog-reactive tendencies, and anxiety in unfamiliar environments can be challenging but manageable for the right person.
Once comfortable in a routine she feels safe in, Dixie is said to enjoy nothing more than snuggling up on the sofa with her favourite person.
Her disrupted life so far has left her struggling in a kennel environment, making it urgent for her to find a forever home.
She would thrive as the only pet in a home with adults and teenagers aged 16 and over, with an owner who is patient and compassionate enough to rehabilitate her with gentle play and quiet walks.
Naomi Temperley, a spokesperson for Cheshire Sighthound Rescue, said: "We can’t thank Agria enough for its generous donation and for helping to raise awareness of giving both of Dixie and other animals a home.
"The donation will help us fund the kennels, which can be as much as £22 per day, as well as vet bills and beyond.
"Dixie is such a sweet, affectionate dog, who our staff are desperate to secure a happy ending for so she can truly thrive.
"We’re hopeful that with Agria’s support, we’ll find her the perfect home where she’ll be cherished for the rest of her life."
Agria's 'Rescue a Rescue' campaign is asking animal lovers across the North West to consider adopting Dixie or any other animals currently in rescue centres.
The campaign was inspired by the spike in animals looking for homes following the surge of new pets in 2020.
Agria ambassador and animal welfare activist, Jodie Kidd, said: "I’m proud to support Agria in its mission to find homes for every Rescue a Rescue mascot.
"Together, we can inspire a greater movement to rehome the thousands of deserving animals across the UK, currently waiting for the chance of a lifetime – the chance to be loved."
Karen Green, rehoming partner manager at Agria Pet Insurance, said: "By adopting rescue animals, you not only transform their lives – they will transform yours as well.
"Dixie is the perfect example of why we’ve launched our ‘Rescue a Rescue’ campaign.
"These pets have so much love to give, and by opening your home to one, you’re truly making a difference in their life – and your own."
