PICTURES have been shared of a bin lorry fire in Runcorn that was caused by batteries.
Firefighters were called to the scene on Woodhatch Road at around 9.45am yesterday, Monday.
Upon arrival they found that waste collected inside the bin wagon had set on fire.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the flames using a horse reel jet.
Since, it has been confirmed that batteries caused the fire.
“We urge you not to dispose of batteries in your household bins,” a post by Runcorn Fire Station on Facebook reads.
“These can cause fires like they did this morning in this bin collection vehicle.
“Please use designated battery recycling bins at shops and household waste collection sites.”
