MOTORISTS are being warned of severe delays and queues on the motorway this afternoon, Tuesday.

A crash has been reported on the M56 heading eastbound this rush hour.

The incident occurred between junctions 14 for Chester Services and Helsby and 12 for Runcorn.

National Highways is reporting 90-minute delays and six miles of queuing traffic as a result.

It is said that a vehicle has left the carriageway following a collision.

One lane is currently closed, with congestion back to junction 15 for the M53 interchange.

Traffic is also slow on the opposite carriageway heading westbound.

National Highways said: “Lane one of three is closed on the M56 eastbound between junctions 14 for Elton and Ellesmere Port and 12 for Runcorn.

“This is due to a collision where a vehicle has left the carriageway.

“There of delays of up to 90 minutes and approximately six miles of congestion on approach.”
