A FORMER Cheshire firefighter has been slapped with a community order after being found guilty of repeatedly stalking a woman.

Anthony Conroy, of Latham Avenue, Runcorn, was heard to have shown up uninvited to the address of his victim, as well as at her workplace, waiting outside until she finished her shift.

The 35-year-old, who previously worked as a firefighter at Runcorn Fire Station appeared before Wigan and Leigh Magistrates last Friday (October 4) after pleading guilty to one count of stalking without fear, alarm or distress.

It was heard in court that events began occurring on January 27 this year when Conroy arrived at the victim’s address in Wigan uninvited and then blocked her vehicle from leaving the property in ‘an attempt to speak to her’.

On that same day he followed the woman to her place of work and again attempted to speak to her.

The court heard how Conroy ‘stood beside her vehicle and waited until she finished her work shift’ in another attempt to speak with her.

When this was not well received, the defendant persisted further, standing in front of car door in an attempt to stop her from leaving.

Conroy was ordered to carry out 26 rehabilitation requirement days and was fined £480 by the courts.

A restraining order of one year was also imposed to stop him from contacting the victim.
