MOTORISTS are being warned of four planned closures of the M6 this week.
All of the closures will be overnight – and they start tonight, Monday.
It comes following news that by the end of this week, an extra lane will be open on each side of the M6 through the area.
However, the temporary 50mph speed limit – which has been in place since work began in March 2021 – will remain until spring next year.
Work to open an extra lane on each carriageway of the M6 between Warrington and Wigan began at the weekend.
At 6am on Saturday, traffic cones and barriers were removed along the southbound M6 between junctions 22 for Winwick and 21a for Croft.
By the end of this week, there will be an extra lane open to drivers in both the northbound and southbound carriageways, along all 10 miles of the M6 between junctions 21a at Croft for the M62 and 26 at Orrell for the M58.
To carry out this work, the below closures are required between 9pm to 6am:
- Tonight, Monday, October 14 – M6 northbound from junctions 22 for Winwick to 23 for Haydock
- Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 15 – M6 southbound from junctions 23 for Haydock to 22 for Winwick
- Wednesday, October 16 – M6 southbound from junctions 26 for Orrell to 23 for Haydock
- Thursday, October 17 – M6 northbound from junctions 21a for Croft to 22 for Winwick
