LAND home to the former historic Runcorn Town Hall is for sale.
Last November, the Runcorn and Widnes World reported that the building looked set to be flattened to make way for supported living apartments.
This was despite warnings from Halton Borough Council’s own heritage expert that said it could cause ‘substantial harm’ to the borough’s historic environment.
Dating back to the 1830s, Waterloo House on Egerton Street was constructed by industrialist Charles Hazelhurst, and later converted for use as the Runcorn’s Town Hall between 1874 to 1933.
A report to the committee previously revealed that the applicant, Signature Housing Group, claimed it was a ‘dangerous building’ that was ‘beyond viable economic repair’.
It has since been demolished and now, the land is listed for sale on Rightmove for offers in excess of £575,000.
The listing reveals that the plot has planning permission for the development of 20 one-bedroom supported living/extra care apartments.
It reads: “The site is roughly rectangular in shape and the previous building has previously been demolished ready for construction of the new development.”
