THE Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Matilda The Musical is set to hit Liverpool for Christmas 2025.
Based on Roald Dahl's much-loved book, the show will run for five weeks at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
Executive producers Denise Wood and Griselda Yorke said: "Christmas in Liverpool, what an absolute treat.
"We are very pleased that the show will have five weeks in this glorious city.
"We are proud of our show and for us to be able to tour it and visit cities like Liverpool so that audiences can share this extraordinary little girl’s story is very special indeed."
The musical, written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Australian comedian and composer Tim Minchin, has won more than 100 global awards, including 24 for Best Musical.
It tells the story of a strong and determined heroine with a vivid imagination.
Tim Minchin said: "When we first started working on the show, our aim was to make a lovely little jewel of a musical for the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
"We never imagined that all these years later it would still be running in the West End, have been made into a film, and is now about to embark on its second tour of the UK and Ireland.
"I’m deeply proud of Matilda The Musical and every single talented person who continues to work on it with passion and enthusiasm."
The musical, which has been seen by 12 million people across 100 cities worldwide, will celebrate its 15-year anniversary in October 2025, before travelling to Liverpool in December 2025.
Ticket on-sale dates, casting news, and further creative team details will be announced in due course.
The show will run from December 2, 2025, to January 4, 2026, at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
