A FLOOD alert is currently in place, having been issued in Widnes.
It comes as river and brook levels across the town rise following a prolonged period of rain over the past 48 hours.
The alert states that flooding is possible, and urges people in those areas to be prepared.
It reads: “Rising river levels may lead to flooding.
“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near Ditton Brook and Sankey Canal, with low-lying land and roads expected to be most affected.
“We are closely monitoring the situation, and rainfall and river levels.
“Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
