A WALK will take place in a Widnes park tonight, Friday, to ‘share messages of hope and positivity’.

This will be the fourth reclaim the night walk organised by Fortuna Female Society and community partners in Widnes.

The first walk was organised in September 2021, at the first safe opportunity after lockdown.

It allowed people to come together and remember Sarah Everard, and ‘reflect on the dangers and inequality still faced by women and girls both nationally and internationally’.

This year, the walk is in response to calls from women to be better heard when raising concerns.

“We are often told, when speaking to them at our events and activities, that women feel ‘unheard and often not believed’,” a walk spokesman said.

“With the broader tagline of ‘safer streets for all’, unrest and division has caused people from all communities to feel less safe on our streets.

“The event will be suitable for all ages and abilities, as we will be sharing messages of hope, positivity and light.

“We will also be giving space to remember women and girls lost to acts of violence, and provide an opportunity for local organisations to promote their services and signpost for additional support.”

Organisations in attendance will be Halton Borough Council’s domestic abuse team, Cheshire Police, which will be providing opportunities to sign up to the Hollieguard personal safety app, RASASC, Papyrus and The Jo Cox Foundation.

The event starts at 6pm to collect your free glowstick and chat with services, with a welcome and briefing at 6.30.

There will also be an empowering warm-up provided by local PT Tanya Johnson from Boxe Gym, before a lap of the park by volunteers to reclaim the night.
