A house in Widnes could be converted into a children's home if plans are given the green light.

An application has been made to Halton Borough Council for the change of use of a three-bedroom property on Liverpool Road into a home for one child.

If approved, the home would also have two members of staff. A document submitted in support of the application said there would be no external changes to the house.

It said: "The purpose of the proposed children’s home will be to act as a home for one child with two staff at the site at any one time, with a view to giving the child a good quality of life within a residential community.

"This will allow the child a sense of belonging and community, with local school, services, and amenities nearby. The home and staff will also provide the child with the necessary support and guidance and ensure that they are adequately cared for and occupancy."

It added that the proposed change of use should be approved because it 'aligns with both national and local planning policies', adding: "(it) meets an important social need by providing care for vulnerable children, fits within the existing character of the residential area, and will not cause significant disruption to the neighbourhood."

Designs uploaded to the council's planning portal show that the existing living room would be turned into an office and staff room, with the current lounge area becoming a new living room.

The applicant's planning statement added: "It also offers potential economic benefits through local employment and contributes positively to the local community’s social fabric. It is also not considered that the proposal would result in harmful loss of a dwelling house within the area or have an adverse impact on the character of the area."

No date has yet been set for a decision. The plans can be viewed on the council's planning portal under the following reference number: 24/00355/COU
