MEMBERS from different Women’s Institute groups from across Halton came together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Halton Borough Council.
On Sunday, August 4 members of the WI in Halton got together at Hazlehurst Studios on High Street in Runcorn to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Halton Borough Council.
The Women’s Institute has around 180,000 members across 5,500 different groups, five of which are located in Halton.
To mark the 50th anniversary, Hazlehurst Studio’s artists and WI volunteers organised 50-minute taster workshops in urban sketching, indigo tie dyeing and printing.
“I really enjoyed dabbling in the craft activities,” said member, Shelley Walker.
“It was also a great opportunity to meet up with women from across Halton and have a friendly chat and a giggle.”
The Mayor and Mayoress of Halton also made an appearance and talking to the 40 WI members about their activities and admired the work they had produced.
“I absolutely loved having a go at all the workshops on the day, great variety, and something for everything,” said WI member, Penny Parry.
“Excited that the Mayor and Mayoress were able to visit so we could show them the work we had done to celebrate Halton Council’s 50th.
“They were thrilled with the coasters that were made for them as a reminder of this celebration.”
Members also presented the Mayor and Mayoress with celebratory hand-painted tiles.
The celebratory event was partly funded by a grant from Halton Borough Council for the 50th anniversary.
