HALTON is home to some of the fastest drivers in England, according to National Highways data.

Research carried out by Ovoko, a car parts marketplace, has shown that Halton is the area with the second fastest drivers in England.

The data was taken from the National Highways National Traffic Information Service and the average speed of all drivers on every A road in England was measured to find out which local authorities had the fastest drivers.

Halton, with an average speed of 36.1 miles per hour in the time studied, is the second fastest, behind Rutland with 38.64 miles per hour.

The A557 was the road with the fastest drivers in Halton, with the average speed reaching 37.5 miles per hour.

Also in the top ten fastest areas is Peterborough, 35.42 miles per hour, Lincolnshire, 34.44, and Shropshire, 33.98.

A spokesperson for Ovoko said: “The contrast of more rural areas and built-up urban areas in this top ten highlights how varied England’s roads can be.

“Whilst this data uses an average of all A roads, the difference in averages on roads that likely have the same speed limit is an interesting note, as the risks of driving at higher speeds are something that many unfortunately ignore.”
