A COMMUNITY dog show held in Runcorn by MP Mike Amesbury has been jokingly hailed as ‘paw-some’.

The sun shone on Phoenix Park where the Runcorn and Helsby MP’s second ever dog show took place at the weekend.

VIP guests were the mayor and mayoress of Halton, Kevan and Andrea Wainwright, at an event hosted in partnership with the park’s CHI Community Café.

Stalls were run by organisations including the RSPCA, Pinwheel Pets, Lunch with Lucy, Tail Mates, CheeKee Bee Ceramics, Cancer Research, Windmill Hill Big Local and Bicycle Revival.

A special mention was also given to Runcorn Four Paws Dog Training which put on an obedience display set to music.

Members of the public entered their beloved pooches for categories that included waggiest tail, cutest old timer, best trick and grumpiest face.

Judges were Mr Amesbury and his office manager Cllr Rosie Leck, along with Kevin McFarlane from the RSPCA stall.

Watching from the side-lines was Mr Amesbury’s pet cockapoo, who won the people’s vote in the Westminster Dog of the Year contest 2018.

Mr Amesbury joked: “I thought the day was absolutely paw-some. We even had decent weather.

“A big thank you to everyone who came along including owners and their dogs, stallholders, sponsors and volunteers. Well done to those owners and pets who won a certificate and prize.”

Prizes were kindly donated by Hesseys Happy Hounds, operating in Runcorn and surrounding area, Safe4 disinfectants of Winsford, Runcorn-based IGSM and Tail Mates of Frodsham.

Mr Amesbury will be releasing a ‘hold the date’ for next year’s dog show soon and encourages stallholders to get in touch if they would like to register an interest.
