A SUSPECT has been named by the courts after being charged with defrauding a charity by abusing his position.
Nigel Garner has been charged with fraud by abuse of position to the tune of almost £7,000.
The 56-year-old, of Park Lane in Higher Walton, Warrington, is accused of defrauding Halton Haven Hospice.
The hospice provides care to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of patients with a life-shortening or terminal condition.
According to court documents, it is alleged that he committed the offence while in the role of director of finance, transformation and sustainability.
The particulars of the charge allege that the offending occurred between October 1, 2023, and January 31, 2024, in Runcorn.
It further alleges that, ‘while expected to safeguard, or not to act against, the financial interests of Halton Haven Hospice’, he ‘dishonestly abused that position intending thereby to make a gain of £6,918.86 for himself’.
Garner is due to make a first appearance in relation to the charge before Warrington Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday.
