A SUSPECT has been arrested by police after a man was assaulted and had his phone stolen at a bus stop in Widnes.

On Thursday, July 11, Cheshire Police were called to reports of an incident at a bus stop on Widnes Road, near Asda supermarket.

The caller described that at around 4.37pm, he was approached by a man who proceeded to assault him and stole his phone.

Following enquiries, a 33-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has since been released on conditional bail.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and police are urging any witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage of the incident which could aid enquiries to come forward.

DC Faye Nowell said: “Enquiries in relation to this incident are in the early stages, and we are doing all we can to identify the people responsible.

“This would have been a busy time of day outside of a busy location, so as part of our investigation, I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and believes that they may have seen anything suspicious.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving through the area at the time of the incident to check their dashcam footage to see if they have anything which may aid our investigation.”
