RESIDENTS are again being warned to expect outbreaks of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
A yellow weather warning was issued for today, and now a second has been issued within the space of 24 hours.
This latest warning for rain came into effect from 3pm today, Monday, and it will remain in force through to 9am tomorrow, Tuesday.
Forecasters say that spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services, as well as of power cuts and a loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
Moreover, there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times with a risk of thunder, are expected to develop later on Monday afternoon, then move northwards through the evening and overnight.
“A total of 15mm to 20mm of rain may fall in less than an hour, with a few places seeing up to 40mm in two hours, but perhaps more widely within a longer period overnight.
“Where this occurs, there is the chance of some flooding and disruption.
“Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
“People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It is easy to do.
“Consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly. When a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
