The Mayor and Mayoress of Halton were among the guests at a ceremony paying tribute to volunteers in Hale Village.

Councillor Kevan Wainwright and wife Andrea Wainwright were joined by Halton Council leader and Hale councillor Mike Wharton for National Thank You Day at the Wellington Pub yesterday (Sunday).

Every year on July 7, Thank You Day brings together people across the UK to celebrate and thank volunteers, teachers, carers and others who go the extra mile for their communities.

The Hale Village ceremony was hosted by the Friends of Hale Village and paid tribute to the volunteers past and present who look after the village’s community.

Representatives of groups were invited to an afternoon tea, where 120 attended and given a red carpet experience while being entertained by the Liverpool Ukulele band.

Alderman Jim Ross of the Friends of Hale Village, said: "Amongst the celebrations a raffle took place with the tickets being drawn by the Mayor and Mayoress.

"Cllr Wharton thanked all the volunteers for their continued work in the village, while The Mayor talked about Halton's 50 years - finishing with a toast to Halton for another 50 years."

The afternoon tea was funded by local business and supported by Halton Council.
