THE latest dates have revealed for major motorway closures, with disruption warned ahead of roadworks.
National Highways has released the latest dates for overnight M6 closures as it works to complete resurfacing as part of the Warrington to Wigan upgrade.
Extra emergency areas, new technology and a lane in each direction is being added to the motorway between junctions 21a for Croft and 26 for Orrell – while all four lanes will be resurfaced.
Most daytime activities on the project have now been completed, with overnight work continuing to install signs and resurface what will be the new lanes two and three of the motorway.
Due to the size of the equipment required for the resurfacing, there will be a series of 9pm to 6am overnight carriageway closures over the next few weeks.
Details of the closures are as follows:
- M6 northbound between junctions 21a and 22 – closed Thursday and Friday, July 18 and 19
- M6 southbound between junctions 22 and 21a – closed Monday and Tuesday, July 15 and 16
- M6 northbound between junctions 22 and 23 – closed Thursday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 16
- M6 southbound between junctions 23 and 22 – closed Wednesday, July 10, and Friday, July 12
- M6 northbound between junctions 23 and 26 – closed tonight, tomorrow, Saturday (12.30am to 6am due to Haydock Races), Monday and next Wednesday, July 17
- M6 southbound between junctions 26 and 23 – closed Tuesday, July 9
The precise dates and times of the work may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Clearly signed diversions will be in place overnight when a carriageway is closed.
