THE members of a Runcorn school’s rowing club are celebrating after taking home a first-place win.

After months of practice, Sandymoor’s year eight students took part in the All Aboard Rowing Regatta race against other schools hosted at Warrington Rowing Club.

And the hard-working team triumphed, winning first place in the race.

Sandymoor Ormiston Academy praised its young rowers on social media for their ‘resilience’ and ‘teamwork’.

In a statement on Facebook the school said: “Our year eight rowers had a fantastic afternoon at the All-Aboard Rowing Regatta held by Warrington Rowing Club.

One of the talented rowers in the team was year eight pupil, Shelby Mills.

Shelby’s mum, Kirsty Griffin spoke of her pride at seeing the team steam through to the finish line.

“They have been practising for months through Sandymoor High school. I’m super proud of her, she has come out her comfort zone lately and is doing absolutely amazing and to win the competition is the Icing on the cake.

“So happy for her and her friends.”
