A WIDNES woman took her own life following a ‘heated exchange’ with a neighbour, an inquest has heard.

Carol Bushell died aged 58 at her home address in Widnes on April 25.

An inquest into her death was formally opened and concluded at Warrington Coroner’s Court by Jacqueline Devonish, senior coroner for Cheshire

The court heard how Ms Bushell was a wheelchair user due to osteoporosis and spent a lot of her time watching TV in her bedroom or on her computer

On April 25, she had heard a banging noise on the window and found this was a child, leading to a confrontation with a neighbour.

Ms Bushell was verbally abused, the court heard, and suffered a panic attack.

When her daughter visited her the following morning, she found her slumped in her wheelchair beside a number of empty packets and a suicide note.

The court heard how Ms Bushell had been ‘up and down’ with her mental health due to her health conditions and mobility.

It was also heard that she told a friend that she ‘did not want to live anymore’.

The medical cause of death was given in court as cardio-respiratory failure due to tramadol toxicity and underlying medical conditions.

Coroner Devonish stated that Ms Bushell ‘took a deliberate overdose following a heated exchange with a neighbour’ and left a note ‘indicating she did not want to be alive anymore’.

She added: “The conclusion is that the death was suicide on the basis that she had taken pills to end her own life with the intention of ending her own life.

“That brings the inquest process to a conclusion. All that remains is for me to extend condolences to her family.”
