A BUILDING plagued by anti-social behaviour has again been visited by police.

Officers from Cheshire Police attended the closed Union Tavern pub in Runcorn on Monday following reports of an attempted break-in.

Landlords announced ‘with a sad heart’ in February that the pub was to close due to rising costs.

In a statement, they said it had become ‘not sustainable financially to run’, and they thanked customers for their trade.

Following reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage at the site, officers helped to board up the pub in April to make it more secure.

But this did not deter youths who damaged the building this week.

Officers have revisited the site to re-secure the premises, with those responsible identified and told to expect a knock at the door.

The force’s Halton Brook Police team said: “Another criminal damage incident occurred on Monday at the currently empty Union Tavern after youths attempted to break in again.

“The security company has been to re-secure the premises and the building is now fully secure again, and alarmed internally.

“A number of youths were identified by witnesses as being involved, and they will subsequently be visited, with their parents.”
