With only a few weeks to go before the General Election, the list of who people can vote for in the new parliamentary seat of Widnes and Halewood has now been finalised.

As previously reported – the Parliamentary constituency of Halton now no longer exists, with its two towns having been separated and placed in new constituencies.

The shakeup is part of national boundary changes which only effect parliamentary elections, the borough of Halton itself will continue to exist unchanged and its council wards remain the same.

But when it comes to choosing an MP, Runcorn residents will vote in the new seat of Runcorn and Helsby, while Widnes residents will vote in the new seat of Widnes and Halewood.

In Widnes and Halewood six candidates will be going head-to-head. They are:

  • David Coveney - Liberal Democrats
  • Jake Fraser - Reform UK
  • Sean Houlston - Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Nancy Lola Mills - Green Party
  • Michael Murphy - Workers Party of Britain
  • Derek Twigg - Labour Party

With a total electorate of 70,355, Widnes and Halewood straddles the counties of Cheshire and Merseyside.

As well as Widnes it also includes Halewood which moves from the now abolished Garston and Halewood constituency.  Voters will also be drawn from the majority of the Whiston and Cronton ward - excluding the town centre of Whiston - from the St Helens South and Whiston constituency.

Polling day takes place on Thursday, July 4, and voters must take photo ID to the polling station.
