This is the first glimpse of a future affordable housing scheme currently under construction in Runcorn town centre.
Planning permission was previously granted for the over 55s accommodation which is being operated by Halton Housing. It is the company's first ever scheme to be made available for social rent.
The housing block on Runcorn Hight Street backs onto the canal and is being build on vacant brownfield land. It consists of 66 properties divided between one and two bedroom apartments and will also feature two lifts, electric vehicle charging points, disabled parking spaces and cycle and motorbike storage.
The Government has previously announced a £11.5 billion Affordable Housing Programme which plans to deliver 180,000 homes in England which will be made available for social rent and supported housing. The Runcorn development is the first independent living scheme Halton Housing will build as part of the programme.
Paul Mullane, director of development and sales at Halton Housing and vice-chair of the Runcorn Town Deal board, said: "This development is particularly exciting, within the context of the broader regeneration programme.
"This project offered an unmissable opportunity to provide affordable, independent living homes in a prime location, that will really enhance the public vista."
The housing development is one of eight projects unveiled as part of Reconnecting Runcorn - a wider regenerations programme funded by £23.6m from the Government's Town Fund.
Damian Cooke, director of economy, enterprise and property from Halton Borough Council, added: "Reconnecting Runcorn’s collaborative approach is not only going to drive sustainable long-term economic growth, through the regeneration of the town, but through this High Street development it will provide quality, desirable homes where they’re most needed."
He added: "We will watch with great anticipation as these homes take shape and the regeneration vision progresses into reality."
The development has an estimated completion of Spring 2026.
