A HAIR and beauty event hosted at Widnes indoor market saw models take on different styles through a range of iconic eras.

Some things are timeless, but one thing that does change from decade to decade is hair styles and make-up trends.

And an award-winning salon based in Widnes rewound the clocks for its successful event ‘Through the Eras’.

The staff at Crème De La Crème Hair & Beauty Boutique worked tirelessly to pull off the event at Widnes indoor market, collaborating with Halton Borough Council, the Widnes Vikings and Riverside College to pull off the show.

Salon owner, Kathryn Carney, from Westbrook in Warrington, spoke of how the event first came about.

“I came up with the idea of giving my staff and students the opportunity to plan, organise and hold an event.

“I gave them the basic guidelines and then let them come up with the ideas themselves and I mentored them through it.

“The girls gave the event the name ‘through the eras’, meaning they would each choose an era to create beautiful skills.

“The staff came up with the idea to showcase their work and skills in hairdressing by sourcing five models to do hair and make-up on and choose a costume.”

Students from Riverside College were invited to watch the event and get involved if they wanted to. They were accompanied by two rugby players from the Widnes Viking’s women’s team as well as the club mascot.

The 42-year-old businesswoman and trained hairdresser has run the salon, also based in Widnes indoor market, for the last nine years.

She also began her journey to becoming a qualified hair and beauty teacher back in lockdown in 2020.

“In the time I have had my salon in Widnes I have expanded in size four times and created opportunities for work experience to local schools and colleges, placement hours, full and part time jobs and apprenticeships,” Kathryn noted.

“I dedicate my heart and soul to my salon, the staff, the students and the clients, working around the clock to ensure that the staff give nothing but 110 per cent to client care and customer service and that the clients are given the service they deserve.”

In setting her trusted staff the challenge of creating the ‘Through the Eras’ event, the owner hoped it would not only help them develop essential business skills within her team but also to keep them ‘motivated and fulfilled within their roles’.

She added: “The day went exceptionally well and all involved learnt something new, and enjoyed the day.

“I would like to thank the management at Widnes market including Lee and Ian that took time out to help and advise on the day. As well as Dan Keir and Sara jones from Widnes Vikings and Lyn Rhodes, Suzanne McGuckin and the students from Riverside College.”

The salon plans to showcase more of its work in the near future so keep your eyes peeled for more.
