ESCALATORS have finally been fixed at a Runcorn shopping centre after hundreds of residents signed a petition.

A campaign was launched in March for Trident Retail Park owners to fix the up and down escalators just inside the covered entrance.

Both had received complaints from members of the public fed up with the escalators being out of order for several months.

There are lifts, but these are extremely busy, with reports of intermittent faults.

A petition launched by current Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury received close to 800 signatures.

He has now confirmed that the escalators are back in working order.

He said: “Some good news. It took some time, but the escalators at Runcorn's Trident Retail Park are finally working once again.

“A big thank you to all 786 people who signed the petition from myself and Halton Lea councillor Kath Loftus calling for the broken escalators to be fixed.

“It sounds like a small thing but will make a big difference to my constituents, especially those with disabilities, mobility problems and even parents with pushchairs.”
