A MAN has been banned from the roads after getting behind the wheel while on cannabis and with an expired licence.

Alan Sibanda was travelling in a Lexus along Bakers Hollow Road in Preston-on-the-Hill, when he was stopped by police on October 9 last year.

The 42-year-old, who was the sole occupant of the car, was found to be holding an expired licence and had no insurance. A quantity of cannabis was also discovered.

A blood test revealed Sibanda, from Northwich, had at least 4.5µg/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (a component of cannabis) in his system, exceeding the limit of 2µg/L.

The Lexus was also found to have two unsafe tyres - the rear offside and the rear nearside - with less than 1.6mm tread.

Sibanda was charged with drug-driving, possession of a class B drug, driving without insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, and two counts of using a vehicle with insufficient tread.

He appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on May 15 where he pleaded guilty to all of the offences.

Taking his admissions into account, magistrates disqualified Sibanda from driving for 40 months and fined him £884.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £354, taking his total court bill to £1,323.

A forfeiture and destruction order was also made in respect to the cannabis.
