A NEW court date has been set for a Runcorn man accused of taking a Mercedes without consent and driving off in it after a crash on the St Helens Linkway.

Mohamed Ramadan appeared before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Thursday, May 2.

Ramadan, 24, is charged with aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to a vehicle.

He is accused of taking a Mercedes on December 30 last year on the St Helens Linkway and that damage was caused to the vehicle.

The 24-year-old is also accused of drink driving, failing to stop after a road accident, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance. 

Ramadan, of Bridgewater Street, Runcorn, appeared before district judge Paul Healey at the court.

During the hearing the case was adjourned until the afternoon of Monday, May 20 for an Arabic language interpreter to attend.

Ramadan was granted unconditional bail and is due to issue his pleas to the charges at the next hearing at the magistrates' court.
