A SUSPECT has been named by the courts after being charged with causing the death of an adored dad-of-four in a crash.
Kevin Viles, from Runcorn, sadly died on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Aintree Hospital following an incident a month earlier.
The 41-year-old had suffered critical injuries following a collision on the A533 Southern Expressway in Runcorn, that occurred shortly before 6pm on Monday, October 17.
Kevin was the passenger in a silver Mini Cooper which had come off the road and overturned on an embankment.
A 29-year-old man from Widnes was arrested and released under investigation.
Now, Hayden Patterson has been charged in connection with the incident.
The 30-year-old, of Barons Close in Widnes, faces a charge of causing death by driving without due care or consideration while over the specified controlled drug limit.
The particulars of the charge allege that on October 17, 2022, he caused the death of Kevin Viles by driving a Mini Cooper on the A533 Southern Expressway without due care and attention.
It further alleges that the proportion of the controlled drug Benzoylecgonine – the main metabolite of cocaine – in his blood exceeded the specified limit.
Patterson also faces charges of possessing cocaine and cannabis in Widnes on October 17, 2022, in Widnes.
He is due to make a first appearance in relation to the charges before Warrington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Tuesday.
A touching tribute to Kevin was issued by his heartbroken wife Emma following his death.
She said: “Kev was not only my husband, but my best friend, my soul mate and a shoulder to cry on when I needed it.
“He fought so very hard to heal and recover from his injuries, to be back with me and our four amazing children, Nathan, Jessica, Amber and Kaylee, and his grandson Kairo.
“Sadly, Kev lost the battle and peacefully drifted away on November 18, with me right by his side.
“Life is never going to be the same for any of us without him. He was our big friendly giant who would do absolutely anything for anyone and always put people before himself.
“Our kids meant the absolute world to him, and he would always go above and beyond to ensure they were number one of his priorities.
“Although you sleep in heaven now Kev, you are not really that far away. My heart is full of memories and you are with me every day.
“You lived your life with meaning and with a smile upon your silly face. A world that was full of happiness is now an empty place for me.
“People say that only time will heal a broken heart, but just like me and you it has been torn apart. I know you are at peace now and in a place where you are free.”
Cheshire Police appealed for anyone with any information regarding the incident to come forward.
PC Liz Thompson, of the force’s Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, added: “A man has lost his life, a woman has lost her husband, four children have lost their dad and a one-year-old baby has lost his grandad.
“If you have any information in relation to this collision – no matter how small – please come forward so we can get justice for Kevin’s family.”
