GORESWOOD Primary School is among five schools in the Liverpool City Region that will receive an orchard to grow on the school grounds.
Veolia is a resource management company that launched the scheme Veolia Orchard in 2022 to improve the wellbeing of young people and help inspire them to create positive change in their environments.
The scheme already supports over 190 schools across the UK through donating orchards and strawberry plants that will be planted on their school grounds.
“We are delighted at how popular the campaign is with schools across the Liverpool City Region,” said Steve Mitchell, regional director for Veolia.
“Improving air quality around schools, engaging pupils on the power of plants and finding innovative recycling solutions to support the community is all part of our purpose to deliver ecological transformation.”
The apple and pear trees and strawberry plants were donated to the scheme by Grow at Brogdale, a specialist in organic plant care.
The schools received their trees earlier this month and those with limited space received a planter of strawberry plants instead to allow them to still be part of the initiative.
Other schools in the City Region taking part in the scheme this year include Netherton Moss Primary School and Pinehurst Primary School.
