ANOTHER amber flood alert in Widnes and Runcorn has been extended to cover a third consecutive day.
It has been issued for areas of the towns along the River Mersey estuary today, Wednesday.
It is again due to high river tides, which are expected to peak this afternoon, and it follows similar alerts issued on Monday and Tuesday.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast this afternoon, Wednesday.
“Flooding is possible of low-lying land and roads.
“We do not currently forecast the flood alert level will be met during the high tide in the early hours of tomorrow morning, Thursday.
“We are expecting higher than normal tides over the next two days, and as a result we may issue further flood alerts.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updated messaging during this period of high tides.
“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses, and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
“This message will be updated by 6pm, or as the situation changes.”
