A SUSPECT is due to appear before the crown court over a reported incident at a convenience store in Widnes.
The incident occurred on Sunday, with a door smashed and later boarded up at the Co-op store in Upton Rocks.
A man was reported to be acting in a threatening manner to staff after stealing items from the shop.
A suspect was later identified and charged, and he is due to appear before the crown court next month.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 10pm on Sunday, January 7, police were called to reports of an incident at the Co-op store in Upton Rocks.
“The caller reported that an unknown man had smashed the door and stolen a number of items.
“The man was also being threatening towards staff. There were no reports of any weapons and no staff were injured.
“Officers attended the scene, and following a search of the area, a 37-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident.
“Philip Beaulieu, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with robbery and criminal property.
“He appeared at Chester Magistrates Court today, Tuesday, January 9, where he was remanded in custody.
“He is next set to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, February 6.”
