MOTORISTS are being warned of major delays on one of Halton’s bridges in the New Year.
From 8 January, northbound lane closures controlled by temporary traffic lights will be in place on Silver Jubilee Bridge as a major maintenance scheme gets underway.
Halton Borough Council says this may result in short delays for drivers at times, and it has apologised in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
The maintenance work includes painting to the steelwork below the main deck of the bridge and will involve the installation of access scaffold across the suspended span over the river.
The working areas will be fully encapsulated to maintain a controlled working environment and minimise the noise and emissions associated with removal of the existing paint system.
The main contractor for the work is Balvac, which has undertaken many significant maintenance schemes on the bridge for the council.
The work is part of a capital programme funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and it is scheduled for completion in July.
