A BURNING pile of rubbish behind a Runcorn town centre pub was at risk of becoming out of control.
Firefighters from Runcorn fire station responded to reports of a fire alarm going off on Cooper Street at 1.34am is morning (November 25).
When they arrived, they found a large pile of waste ablaze in open space behind a pub, which firefighters says seemed to have been deliberately set on fire.
The crew used a hose to put out the fire, which they say was at risk of burning out of control.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Following reports of a fire alarm sounding, crews were called to open space behind a pub in Runcorn town centre.
“They found a large amount of waste on fire, thought to have been burned deliberately, but at risk of becoming uncontrolled.
“They used a hose reel water jet and spreaders used in grassfires to extinguish the fire.”
