POLICE have confirmed that a man died after being hit by a train on the Manchester to Liverpool line through Widnes over the weekend.
The incident occurred shortly before 1.15pm on Saturday at Padgate railway station.
A large emergency service presence was in attendance at the station.
The railway line was blocked between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central, causing disruption to trains through Widnes, with trains cancelled and delayed for a number of hours.
In a statement issued this morning, Monday, British Transport Police has confirmed that the casualty was an 18-year-old man.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police were called to Padgate Station at around 1.13pm on Saturday, November 18, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, but sadly a person – an 18-year-old man – was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
