A MAN threatened a shopper with a broken wine bottle at a Co-op store in Widnes.

Police were called to the terrifying incident on Liverpool Road in Ditton at around 12.35pm yesterday, Sunday,

Callers reported that a man had threatened another customer with a broken wine bottle.

Officers attended the store and on arrival, , they found the suspect had left the scene.

However, following enquiries, officers arrested a 35-year-old local man on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, and possession of an offensive weapon.

He remains in custody, a Cheshire Police spokesperson has confirmed.
