A BELOVED cat dubbed ‘Titanium Tobes’ can now walk again after receiving life-saving brain surgery from vets in Runcorn.
Toby the six-year-old Bengal cat received a complex operation at Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) to remove an incredibly large tumour.
The speed of his recovery has amazed his owner, Rachel Lee, based in Manchester, as well as vets.
He was able to walk and see again just four days after the operation, and is now almost neurologically normal four weeks later.
Rachel said: “Rory and the team did an amazing job in caring for Toby.
“We were unsure how he would be after having brain surgery, but he is back to his old self, just a slight wobble from time to time.”
Toby had been unwell for a while and arrived at the vets unable to walk and only partially visual.
It was discovered that a high pressure inside his skull was causing his brain to enlarge and dangerously shift, called herniation.
Rachel added: “It was extremely worrying, given just how poorly Toby was.
“Although it was a very stressful time, in a way it was also somewhat reassuring to know there was a cause rather than it being a mystery illness.”
Rory Fentem, neurology clinician at NWVS, led the successful operation, which lasted for two and a half hours due to the tumour’s large size and it being difficult to access.
A metal plate has been fitted onto Toby’s skull, earning him the nickname ‘Titanium Tobes.’
He is now making a smooth recovery at home with the help of many cuddles and belly rubs from his owner.
