MEMBERS of a church in Runcorn are being faced with an important vote to secure its future.
The congregation at Runcorn Spiritualist Church will have to decide whether to repair the current church building on Ashridge Street.
Another option is to move out of the current building and find a new location in the town.
The church committee says its preference is to move due to the huge costs required to bring the current church building up to the standard required.
In a notice to all church members, Runcorn Spiritualist Church said: “The committee has been made aware of rumours regarding Runcorn Church.
“You will be receiving a letter regarding the upcoming general meeting on October 20 at 7pm.
“This is to vote to sell the church and look for a new building to be our next Runcorn Spiritualist Church.
“The money from the sale of the church will go into a trust fund for Runcorn Spiritualist Church and will help to pay for a new building, with the help of the SNU in which we have been holding discussions
“The second motion is to retain the building and carry out the repairs ourselves. This is a mammoth task as it is going to cost in excess of £100,000.
“It is your choice as members to vote for the right outcome. As a committee, we feel our best possible choice is to sell and rebuild, but it is not our decision alone.
“We urge you to come to the meeting with open minds. The SNU want to keep a spiritualist church in Runcorn, as do we. Please come along and support.”
